sherlock_peter_XSC7730_8x10MITRE Corp. has promoted Peter Sherlock, former executive director for integration at its National Security Engineering Center, to senior vice president and director for the company’s Bedford operations.

Sherlock will oversee MITRE’s research in cybersecurity, aviation, homeland security, law enforcement, finance and healthcare at its Bedford, Mass. campus, as well as the federally funded NSEC, which the company runs for the Defense Department, according to a MITRE statement.

Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and CEO, said Sherlock will aim to help the company widen existing partnerships, seek fresh opportunities and leverage current resources to tackle challenges on a national scale.

Sherlock joined MITRE in 1986 to lead its information technology and large acquisition programs for several NSEC clients, as well as its interoperability solutions for the DoD and intelligence community sponsors.

He also served as executive director of MITRE’s army systems and technology division.

In his new role, Sherlock will manage approximately 2, 100 employees at the 105, 000-square-foot Bedford campus to provide engineering, research and development and IT support to government customers.

The facility houses research and development of military and civilian technologies and the offices for the Advanced Cyber Security Center, a cross-sector consortium in New England that aims to address cyber security issues.
