Northrop Helping Produce Navy Mine Defenses

NorthropLogoNorthrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has won a $28, 557, 888 modification contract to provide engineering services for the U.S. Navy‘s Littoral Combat Ship program.

The company will help plan production of mission packages to be integrated with the ships and aim to evaluate system maturity, the Defense Department said Friday.

Mission packages are intended to focus on mine warfare and emphasize mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare and surface warfare.

The Navy is acquiring the mission packages separately from the LCS seaframe, the Pentagon said.

Work will occur through September 2014 and the company will receive all contract funds at the time of award from the Navy’s fiscal year 2012 operations and maintenance funds.
