Report: Dell Nearing Buyout Deal, Microsoft Involved

Dell logo_GovConWireDell (NASDAQ: DELL) is nearing a deal for a buyout led by California-based private equity firm Silver Lake Management LLC, Bloomberg reports.

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) could provide some funding and Michael Dell could contribute between $500 million and $1 billion of equity financing for the deal, the report said.

Michael Dell currently holds a 15.7 percent stake in the company he founded in 1984, according to Bloomberg.

Silver Lake and its partners have lined up nearly $15 billion in funds for the transaction, which Bloomberg reports would value Dell at between $23 billion and $24 billion.

Reuters reports that if the buyout does not go through, investors and analysts believe Dell could borrow itself and start a large share repurchase.
