Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (NASDAQ :KTOS) has won a potential $133 million U.S. Air Force contract to build a command and control system for current and future military communications satellites.

The company said it won $17.5 million for the first year of the Command and Control System — Consolidated Sustainment and Production Contract, which contains options that could extend the contract for six years.

Kratos has worked on the CCS-C program for 10 years.

“CCS-C is imperative to keep our military communications intact, and Kratos is prepared to tackle any challenges that may arise to ensure the success of this mission, ” said Phil Carrai, president of the technology and training division.

“We look forward to working in close partnership with the Air Force to ensure CCS-C’s operational readiness to execute the MILSATCOM program mission, ” said Robert Wright, the division’s senior vice president for federal solutions.

The company said the CCS-C program is currently configured to support the Defense Satellite Communications System, Milstar, Wideband Global SATCOM and the Advanced Extremely High Frequency system.

Kratos said the Air Force’s 50th Space Wing wants the C2 system to use open architecture.
