Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) has won an $80 million contract under the national cyber range program to support operations at a military test range that is about to become operational, according to NextGov.
Dawn Lim writes that the five-year contract supports the cyber range housed in a “specially architected sensitive compartmented information facility with appropriate security protocols.”
Equipped with custom-configured government and Lockheed-owned hardware and software, the facility is designed to help the Pentagon hone computer attack capabilities for hunting down intruders and thwarting computer attacks.
A special notice revealed that the test lab is a mini-model of the public Internet and other institutional networks.
It “provides for the modeling of cyber attack” and allows the Defense Department to test and evaluate the impact of cyber attacks.
The notice said it will support efforts to “simultaneously execute parallel events at multiple security levels (unclassified through Top Secret) as required.”
Johns Hopkins University, Sparta Inc. and Lockheed Martin helped develop the range for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
The cyber range comes amid a push for Plan X, which is meant to support the development of technology that can bolster the government’s attack capabilities in the digital domain.
