UPDATE: Army Picks 20 Firms for $10B Tactical Communications IDIQ; Bob Durbin Comments

The U.S. Army has awarded 20 companies the opportunity to compete for task orders on the Global Tactical Advanced Communications Systems contract, according to Defense Systems.

The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract is meant to supply the Army’s Program Executive Office for Command, Communications and Control – Tactical with state-of-the-art communications devices and systems.

“The initial task orders from this contract are expected to be released in 2013 and will fall under the three key task areas of development, production and deployment, and sustainment, ” said Bob Durbin, Exelis acting vice president and general manager of the communications and force protection systems business area.

According to Exelis,  C3 systems (command, control and communications), hardware, software, engineering services and logistics support services are all included in the contract.
