General Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) Electric Boat subsidiary has won a potential $100 million U.S. Navy delivery order to conduct fire restoration work on the USS Miami, the Defense Department announced Friday.

The subsidiary will provide the branch assessment and analysis, planning, material procurement, fabrication and initial installation with the goal of returning the submarine to the Navy’s fleet.

According to the Pentagon, the Navy placed the order in coordination with an ongoing overhaul executed by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and  assigned the work to a private firm due to workload constraints at public shipyards.

Work under the cost-plus-fixed-fee delivery order will occur in Portsmouth, N.H.; Newport News, Va.; and Quonset Point, R.I. through June 2013.

The subsidiary is designing and engineering missile concepts for the Navy under a potential $191.3 million modification awarded in December.
