NASA Says Commercial Crew Awards Could Hit $500M

NASA expects to make multiple awards ranging between $300 million and $500 million this summer for the agency’s commercial space crew initiative.

NASA said it is accepting proposals from industry for a commercial crew transportation system and said proposals could lead to Space Act Agreements.

The base period would run from initial award through May 2014.

NASA said goals of the base period include completing the design of the system, which will include:

  • Ground operations
  • Launch vehicle
  • Mission control
  • Spacecraft

NASA will hold a pre-proposal conference on Tuesday in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Proposals are due March 23.
