Lockheed Wins $400M for MILSATCOM, AEHF Satellite Work

Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) has been awarded a $312.2 million cost-plus-incentive-fee contract by the U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon announced Dec. 5.

Under the contract, Lockheed will provide engineering support for the Air Force’s advanced extremely high frequency satellite program through 2014.

According to Lockheed’s website, the first AEHF satellite was successfully launched on Aug. 14, 2010. Lockheed categorized it as the most technologically advanced military communications satellite ever developed.

On a separate award, the Air Force awarded Lockheed an additional $92,231,439 to continue service under the MILSATCOM contract and maintain the Milstar and the Defense satellite communications system.

According to the Air Force’s website, the AEHF was designed as a second generation satellite to the Milstar system, as a way to both improve and expand Milstar’s capabilities.

Together the satellites provide connectivity across multiple areas including land, air, and sea and aid in various military applications.
