Marines Order More Excalibur From Raytheon

Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) has received an urgent order from the U.S. Marine Corps for 1, 037 155 mm Excalibur extended range, precision-guided artillery projectiles to be used in Afghanistan.

The company said implementing the Excalibur into the regiment combat teams has allowed the Marines to provide responsive precision artillery fires in their operational zone.

Excalibur’s GPS precision guidance technology allows accurate, first round, fire-for-effect capabilities in urban settings.

“Excalibur can precisely engage a target before close air support is available, and that availability has made the projectile crucial to the success of distributed operations in Afghanistan, ” said Michelle Lohmeier, vice president of Raytheon Missile Systems’ land combat product line. “The Marines have clearly embraced the capability, and their lessons learned will enhance future employment of Excalibur to provide even greater benefit to our warfighters.”
