L-3, General Dynamics Close Out Week with Defense Contracts

According to the Department of Defense, “L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) was awarded a $12, 877, 622 contract modification.  The initial contract, awarded in December 2008, covered 31 months of development for a fully immersive Block 40/50 F-16 Mission Training Center (MTC).  Priced production options to buy up to 20 MTCs along with operations and contractor logistics support were also included.  The resultant MTCs will network with the other training simulators via the Distributed Mission Operations Network.  This modification adds the M6+OPF concurrency update.  At this time, $3, 219, 406 has been obligated.  ASC/WNSK, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity (FA8621-09-C-6292; P00034).

“General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) is being awarded a $59, 963, 504 cost-plus-fixed fee modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-09-C-2104) to exercise an option for continued Virginia-class design for affordability tasking.  The contract action exercises an existing option for continued tasking of design efforts to make the construction of Virginia-class submarines more affordable.  This is a modification to the existing multiyear contract N00024-09-C-2104 that procured one submarine per year for fiscal 2009 and fiscal 2010 and two submarines per year from fiscal 2011 through fiscal 2013.  This contract action enables the Virginia-class program to meet the mandate to reduce acquisition costs by 20 percent by the fiscal 2012 ships.  Work will be performed in Groton, Conn. (95 percent), and Quonset Point, R.I. (5 percent), and is expected to be complete by February 2020.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.”
